Don Goddard
PMP
CA, USDon Goddard is an Executive Coach and a Professor of Systems Engineering at Defense Acquisition University (DAU), San Diego, California. Don was a business/life coach for six years before joining DAU. He was a breakout session speaker at the International Coach Federation convention in Canada in 2000. For Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, he is a rare INFJ. Thus, he enjoys finding potentials in people and institutions and helping them come to fruition. Don became a DAU-qualified executive coach March 2012. As a DAU executive coach, he embraces its mission to improve acquisition outcomes via coaching. He appreciates a coaching client—already a busy, high achiever—who seeks a thinking partner to hone his/her executive craft.
At DAU, Don also has provided mission assistance (consulting) to several major Defense acquisition programs. These programs include the consolidated afloat networks and enterprise services, multiband terminal, space-based infrared system, global positioning system, undersea integration, nuclear capability, and intercontinental ballistic missile.
Don is a graduate of Ohio State University and received his commission in the United States Marine Corps the same year. He earned an MBA degree from National University and completed program management and systems engineering courses at the University of Southern California.
Following active duty, Don worked as a contractor on many Defense acquisitions involving all military branches. He rose to become a functional manager at Xerox, a senior-level program manager at General Atomics and a vice president/general manager at Management Systems International.
He has fulfilled one or more program office roles, including program manager at times. His pre-DAU experience spans 20 systems, including laser engagement, aircraft launch/recovery, infrared countermeasures, radar, solid rocket motor demilitarization, focused ion/particle beam, explosion suppression, and unmanned air systems. Don has a long, successful history of implementing programmatic and enterprise breakthroughs. Besides program management, he is a subject matter expert on risk management. He has 30+ years of leadership experience across all acquisition life cycle phases at for-profit and non-profit organizations.
Don has earned certification as a project management professional from Project Management Institute and as a certified professional logistician from the Society of Logistics Engineers. He is DAWIA 3 certified in program management, engineering, and program systems engineering. Don is a member of the Acquisition Corps.
His personal interests include photography, cooking, needle art, and music. Even here, he relaxes with an eye toward achievement. Don won first-place for baking, second place for cross stitching, and honorable mention for photography at the San Diego County Fair. He sang with the San Diego Symphony Chorus during summer pops season. He is married to the former Charlotte (Chari) Cook from Cherry Valley, California.

Risk Management Blunders
Many project/program professionals believe they already understand risk management. Yet, many programs regularly commit risk management blunders with far-reaching consequences. This workshop will allow attendees to expose and explore risk management blunders with an ultimate goal to expunge their future occurrence. Bring your thoughts and examples to share, plus listen and learn from the other attendees.
