Gary Thomas is a writer and the founder and director of the Center for Evangelical Spirituality, a writing and speaking ministry that integrates Scripture, church history, and the Christian classics.  He has served as a campus pastor and is an adjunct faculty member at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, where he teaches on spiritual formation.   

His books have been translated into eleven languages, and include Sacred Influence, Devotions for a Sacred Marriage (finalist for the 2006 ICBS Book of the Year Award), Devotions for Sacred Parenting, Sacred Parenting, Authentic Faith (which won the 2003 Gold Medallion Award), Sacred Marriage (which now has over 175,000 copies in print), The Glorious Pursuit, Sacred Pathways (chosen by World magazine as one of the top ten books of 1996), and Seeking the Face of God.  As a collaborative writer, Gary has written with such well-known Christians as Chuck Colson (BreakPoint radio commentaries), Norma McCorvey (a.k.a. Jane Roe of Roe v. Wade), Franklin Graham, Michael W. Smith, and U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.  His book with Senator Ashcroft was a finalist for the Gold Medallion Award.  He is also one of the contributors to the Spiritual Formation Bible and the Couples’ Devotional Bible, both published by Zondervan. 

Gary graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Western Washington University, and he holds a master's degree with a concentration in systematic theology from Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., where he studied under Dr. J.I. Packer.  He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Western Seminary (Portland, OR), in 2006. 

He has had over 100 articles published by numerous national magazines, including Christianity Today, Decision, Moody, Marriage Partnership, New Man, Discipleship Journal, Charisma, and World, among others.    

Gary has been a featured guest on numerous radio and television programs, including Focus on the Family and Family Life Today, and he speaks internationally on the nature of the spiritual life.  He is married, has three children, and lives in Bellingham, Washington.
