MN, USQuinn Nystrom shares her dramatic story of living with type 1 diabetes, speaking to over 300,000 people across North America. Her advocacy career began when her five-year-old brother, Will, was diagnosed with diabetes. When she was 13, she was diagnosed and doubled her efforts. At 16 she was chosen as the National Youth Advocate for the American Diabetes Association and embarked on a year-long speaking tour across the country.
For the past two decades, she has been sharing her story. Her message is simple: Find a cure for diabetes and provide support and care for the 30 million Americans living with diabetes, nearly ten percent of the population.
Inspired by her teenage angst, "If I Kiss You Will I Get Diabetes?", Quinn wrote a first-hand account of negotiating life with a chronic illness. She was recently appointed by Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton to the Council on Disabilities.
Quinn Nystrom received her Master of Science Degree from Syracuse University in Communication Management. Her researched examined if there was a correlation between the source, the effect of those messages, and how they related to a type 1's HbA1c. She's been featured on XM Radio, Glamour Magazine, MSN, Diabetes Forecast, Reader's Digest and The Learning Channel (TLC).
